National Museum of Romanian History

Initially intended as a home for the Central Post Office, this impressive building was built between 1894 - 1900 after the plans of the Romanian architect Alexandru Savulescu.

In 1970 the postal office was moved away and the National Museum of Romanian History was open here as the most important museum of Romania.

The museum hosts a large collection of items and artifacts from ancient times until the present day. In the permanent collections, you will find a real size replica of the famous Trajan's Column in Rome, an impressive set of Roman marbles, some of the famous Dacian Bracelets and the Pietroasele treasure (4th century gothic treasure of gold items).

Also, you can view the Steel Crown of Romania of King Carol I. The crown was made from the steel of a cannon captured by the Romanian Army during the War of Independence (1877-1878) against the Ottomans.

Many rooms are closed now for renovation but you can still visit some of the museum. Please visit the museum website for more information about the permanent and temporary exhibitions.
